Warehouse temperature distribution and ventilation optimization

Task

Study cooling quality of split chillers to ensure even air flow and temperature distribution in a warehouse of fresh vegetables.

Solution

First, we acquired HVAC data onsite with a handheld data logger and measured actual geometry of the building and a typical arrangement of stored goods. Data was used to validate our CFD model in first sprint. In the next 2 sprints we used our validated model to study different fan and chillers arrangements, calculate steady state heat equilibrium (necessary cooling power), temperature distribution of stored goods in several logistic arrangement. As the consultations became more specific, our model became more and more detailed. By the end it was a multi-domain 3D CFD model with ~ 3e6 cells. Our role in this project was subcontractor.
